My Philosophy
01.
Self Portrait. Annie Yang. Digital Collage.
Art is a process. Artists explore art materials, technique, art history, and aesthetics and critique through mentored art classes that highlight student choice. Projects are scaffolded to build life skills including learning how to prepare, plan, experiment, explore, synthesize ideas, manage projects, solve problems, evaluate and reflect, and implement ideas through creative problem solving. Providing a framework for student learning through a choice-driven and process-centered approach allows artist thinking to grow.

Teaching the creative process and making space for student choice are as important as the final product. The combination provides students with a framework for thinking that transfers across the curriculum and into the real world.
